Prejury II

We worked two different skin in our structure. The first one is the shell which is fractured according to the external site forces, the second one is the internal skin that envelopes, wraps, or separates the program components inside the shell.

For this prejury, we worked on the specific programs which are guest house, researcher lodging, scientific dissemination which consists of library, mediatheque, archive. The shell relates itself to the landscape and so that landscape becomes an active field.

Program Fracture

Our aim was to design the program before we fracture it according to the external forces that we define as the contextual elements. While we design the program, we defined resistant areas as well as fragile areas with points/lines/surfaces. Every program components have their own resistance and fragility and they are related to each other so that when the fracture occurs, new possible spatial relations and interactions will appear.

After Jury

After the prejury we decided to make analysis on the macro-scale to understand and support our concept better. We mapped the context and analyzed urban fractures as hydrology, infrastructure, seismic, greenery, and soil type.

Afterward, we defined resistant and fragile areas in the site according to the soil type analysis. This is going to help us while we are producing our field. In order to relate our architectural program components, we defined again resistant and fragile areas with points/lines/surfaces. When we juxtaposed this two analysis (field-program) we started to produce our fractures and our structure.

Sketchproblem – SCALE

This is a quick exercise that we made to understand the scale of the given site, Izmit. To understand the scale we were expected to place the selected building on the site. So, we placed Musée des Confluences, and we try to understand both the building scale which we have to design and the site scale. It is beneficial for us to locate this building with its landscape.
